Valentine's Cheap Date

Let me tell you about my Valentine's Day experience with my first boyfriend...

We'd met up at around eight that evening due to work demands. He hadn't made any plans because VD was just "too commercialised" and a way to "rip people off". Besides, he treated me like a queen everyday (his words). I was upset that we couldn't even have a nice meal that day, so he suggested walking to a nearby row of restaurants. Guess what? All were filled with lovey dovey couples sharing a romantic moment by candlelight. The waiter had to apologize that we couldn't get in without any reservations as they were full.

Finally, we ended up at the nearby food center, eating cheap noodles in a dark and dingy setting. I couldn't stop crying into my bowl of noodles. He promised to make up for it and took me to an affordable restaurant a week later, all the while boasting how he'd managed to save money by not "following the herd". He also never gave me any flowers because as a nature photographer he didn't believe in "killing" flowers. I didn't get a card either!

I should've dumped him then because he was so cheap but I thought I was overreacting over a "silly" occasion. Even though he shaped up a little after that, my love for him died and I dumped him anyway. He took me for granted in many ways and overlooked my feelings on many other occasions. Of course, now I am with a man who treats me so much better, and is a lot more romantic. :-) Now that I look back at this, I realize that the amount of effort a man puts and the willingness he has to hurt his pocket are really signs of how much he loves you. There are wonderful men out there who will really treat you like a queen, in action and not just words.
