There was a younger guy at work who liked me a lot. I will call him Armando, since that is his name.

Armando knew I was recently separated and have 4 kids. I was also kind of broke. He makes the same amount of money I do, and lives with his dad. One would think he could contribute a little to our dates.

The first two times we went out, he paid for everything. Then he would make excuses. "Can you get the bill for dinner? I lost my wallet today" was one excuse he used a lot. Or "My grandpa died today and I had to send my grandmother flowers in Mexico, so I am broke". He used that one 6 or 7 times. (I recently asked his father about this. He says both grandfathers are alive and well).

He goes to drive through windows to buy coffee, and when he gets to the window to pay, he will drop a few pennies and say, "Aw, man! I just dropped 2 bucks in change", grabs his coffee and takes off.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when he humiliated me when he was not able to pay for cab fare. The night started out horrible. I walked to the club with him. In four inch platform heels. 2 miles. I offered to pay for a cab, but he said no, he wanted to walk and get some fresh air. It was COLD and snowing out. Fresh air?

We got to the club and he paid for some of my drinks. He drank a lot himself and finally, I said I was ready to go home. He said to call a cab. I offered to pay for it, but I said I would have to stop by a bank machine on the way back. He said not to worry about it. He had lots of money. We got a cab, and a block away from his house, he suddenly looked mortified and asked the driver to stop. I was bewildered. This was not where we were supposed to get out! The driver stopped and Armando told me to start walking. I did, but I heard some yelling and turned around. Armando was telling the cab driver he did not have any money, but he could pay him on his next payday. The cab driver was furious and I was embarrassed. I knew the cab driver, since I do not drive and I take a lot of cabs. I walked over and asked the driver how much I owed him and he said it was $27. I paid it and the cab driver thanked me and said he was glad some people had a sense of responsibility.

The next day, I told Armando I could not see him anymore. I got back together with my husband and we still talk to Armando. We just don't go anywhere with him, especially not in a taxi!
