VALENTINE'S DAY WEEKEND
I had gone to Florida with a girlfriend for a long weekend and, while there, met this really great guy. We spent every minute of that weekend together finding all about each other. We vowed to keep in touch and kissed goodbye.
When I arrived home, there was a message waiting from him. He called me every evening and we would talk forever. This was unbelievable. He seemed really great. He worked 2 jobs, had a house, had good family values and he like me.
Things were moving along really quickly, and he asked me to fly down to spend Valentines Day with him. He sent me an airline ticket and made all the arrangements with a limo and everything to be taken to his house. He was at work when I arrived, but he had left a key and 2 dozen red roses.
The weekend was wonderfull and he asked me to accept a ring. It was not officically an engagement ring, but sort of a pre-engagement ring. We made arrangements for me to return in March, right after spring break. He explained that I couldn't come the week of spring break because he was going home to Georgia for his father's birthday, so I would come the week after.
Arrangements were made and he went to work and I waited for a cab to come to take me to the airport. While I was waiting I decided to write him a note. I was looking around for paper and a pen and found his breifcase. It wasn't locked and I thought I'd find what I need inside.
Boy, did I find what I needed. I found letters from another girl from Canada. According to her responses in the letter, he must have been sending her exact copies of the letters he was writing me, just changing dates and names. The real reason I couldn't come down for spring break was because she was coming that week. And, she had been there the week before and he had bought her the exact same ring!
I was furious. I wrote him a note. A very long note. Then, I took my flowers, her address and phone number, and I wrote her a note on the plane and gave her my number.
She and I spoke several times on the phone and became very good friends. I also spoke with his father and found out that he did not have a house, he was merely house sitting while his parents were trying to sell the place. His father was furious when he found out what his son had done and called me and the other girl to apologize. He told us both to keep the rings and offered to let us stay in his house if we ever visited Florida again.
We both declined.
