May... it is the month that brings together two aspects of my life that wrap around each other with feeling and emotion. It brings Mother's Day toward the beginning. It is National Military Appreciation Month, and brings Memorial Day at the end.
So to all the "Moms" in our lives: Happy Mother's Day!
To the soldiers both in my life and that have, or are, defending my way of life: Thank you.
Sheila is currently in Australia visiting her Mom. I'm not sure if they have Mother's Day there. I keep forgetting to ask. But since we celebrate it here, I would like to wish her Mum a Happiest of Mother's Days on her behalf!!
As for me.....
I am blessed. I have two "Moms".
They are as different as can be. Each brings something to my life that I treasure and cherish. My relationship with each is very separate, yet equally important. I love both, and hope that each understands that my love for the other in no way diminishes the love and respect I have for her. Each of them are shoulders to lean on, friends to laugh with, and strong women to look up to.
They are different, yet they share much in common. They both share in the joys of myself and my siblings. They both worry about us, support us, love us and care about our lives. At the core... they really aren't all that different from each other after all.
I am blessed. I have a couple of other "Moms" that have been great in my life. Although not a part of my family by blood... they are family none-the-less. One was brought into my life by marriage: My mother-in-law. Although we're thousands of miles apart, you are still here in our hearts. Thank you for all that you are! (And thank you for raising a son that grew to be the perfect husband!!!!!)
The other "Mom" was brought to me through friendship: Mama "L" (you know who you are!!) - I can't begin to thank you enough. For keeping a watch over me and being such a great support during my "wilder", younger years. For being an example of strength and grace - under all kinds of pressure - through my adult years. Most of all... thank you for raising the best kind of friend a girl could ask for!
As for the Soldiers..... to all of you that have shared in the laughter, the shots of Jager, the late night political debates on the back deck, the celebrations and more (like the poor attempts at pool cleaning, emergency lock changing and much needed house cleaning): Thank you for all that you do, for all that you are. We are really going to miss you as you head back to Iraq!!! (And to Tom: Happy Retirement!! I'm going to miss you, too!) Be safe, stay sane, and know that we're here.. planning your Welcome Home bash!!!!
