Amanda’s Wedding Jenny Colgan Publisher: Warner Books
“Most of the really messy things in life don't
actually have a beginning-they kind of bear down on you over years, like the consequences of not cleaning your bathroom floor (stickiness, cholera, etc.).
This one did, though. It definitely did, and I remember it extremely clearly. Well, in a fuzzy kind of way.”
Thank God—it was my bed. So, one, I was
actually in a bed; and two, it was mine. I was beating the odds already. I prized open one very sticky eye and attempted to focus it, to try to work out where the smell was coming from. I appeared to be
jammed between the wall and an extremely large and unidentifiable chunk of flesh.”*

Thus begins the hilariously funny tale of Mel, struggling with friends, love and breaking up a wedding. The object of Mel’s sabotage plans is Amanda. Too
pretty and too rich, she’s the perfect girl that everyone hates. Mel enlists the help of her friends and Amanda’s future brother-in-law to save the groom from marital
doom. Throw in the fact that Amanda is one of Mel’s oldest friends and that she’s marrying one of Mel’s former love interests and the result is a funny tale of life, love and friendship.
First time novelist Jenny Colgan did a marvelous job of creating characters that resemble people in our own lives. Maybe even ourselves. A thoroughly
enjoyable book. I can’t wait to read another by this witty author.
If you are a fan of Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’ Diary, then you are in for a
treat. Similar in setting and tone, Amanda’s Wedding is a definite “must read” for all women!
