"Breaking up is the worst thing in the world but I'm sure Delphine's book will help you."
— Elizabeth Taylor
About the Author Delphine Hirsh is a veteran of many breakups and, as evidenced by her long-distance bill, is also a consultant to heartbroken friends nationwide.
The Review
Only someone that has either suffered through many of their own or their friends' breakups could have written this book. This girl has it all covered - from the eating and drinking immediately following a breakup, to wanting to tell the guy to f*** off, to playing the blame game to re-entering the dating life. Even some of the smallest details are mentioned. Things I thought that I alone had felt or done or wanted to do in breakups past.
This book is worth it for the quizzes alone. Delphine Hirsh pulls no punches as evident by the very first quiz: Is it really a breakup? Meaning - were you really dating. I'm really taking a liking to the whole blunt approach in life - and this book fits that model well. With more than a dash of humor I must add.
I did approach this review a bit differently than past books regarding breakups. Seeing as I'm married and don't plan on suffering a breakup (I firmly believe in 'til death do us part - or death upon parting - however the line goes) I usually try to think back to how I felt during a breakup. This time I decided to approach this as a learning experience - a training excercise per se. Many of my friends are still single and I have heard many of their breakup tales, woes and tears. I decided that this time I was going to arm myself with info from this book that I could use during the next love crisis. Afterall - I want to be a wise sage when it comes to matters of the heart. Of course I will also have to give them a copy of this book because they will never believe that I've gotten this good at advice. LOL
