The Review
Here's a little story... One of my oldest, closest friends has just bought her first house. After an adult life spent in condos and apartments, she was excited to be branching out. Yet she was also a bit mystified as to what to do. She had many questions as I went to visit her new home for the first time. We went over little things like decorating and her outdoor lighting system and locating the fuse box. We branched into larger matters like bigger repairs and emergencies. I'm sure I looked like the wise one. But I've lived with my husband, the ultimate "Mr Fix-It!" for over 13 years. I was bound to have picked up a few tricks of the trade over time. I left with her voice echoing in my ears.. "I'm going to be calling you every minute you know!!"
After returning home I received a copy of Room for Improvement. Ack! My friend didn't need me! She just needs this book. It covers everything we had discussed and more. From replacing a toilet seat to patching a wall to fixing a leaky faucet. It covers repairs and decorating, and information about the tools you need. Inside, outside - it matters not. This book has got you covered. (And yes - I even learned a thing or two. Can't wait to tell hubby!!)
OK - I'm not saying this is a replacement for the Mr. Fix-it in my life. But it is a good supplement for me. And for those not as fortunate as I to have a handy man - look no further than your bookstore shelves. We don't need no stinkin' man!! LOL (I am just kidding honey!! *wink wink)
