Crafty Divas and Entrepreneurial Empresses

We've been asked about our Crafty Divas and Entrepreneurial Empresses feature area. So we thought we'd create this area to explain it to you. Why we do this, how we find our Divas, etc......

What is it about?

This is our way of showcasing some amazingly talented women. These women aren't just Crafty - they are also exhibiting a keen business sense. Each month we feature sites that we think you should know about through interviews, picture galleries, reviews, etc.

How do we find our Divas?

Some sites we have found on our own - just shopping around. Others were referred by our friends. Many have been recommended by our Girlposse.com Readers. Oh yeah - you guys have taste! And yet others have simply tooted their own horn - telling us we should check them out. We like the ballsy approach - especially when it is backed up by great talent and fab products!

Why do we do this?

You know how you love to tell your friends when you find a cool new store or product? Well, we're the same way. Over the years we have come across many talented women - and we thought "Hey! We should help them spread the word!" And so we created this feature.

It is getting harder and harder to find unique gifts for our friends - and for ourselves. Now we have many featured - all in one place!

What do we get out of it?

A reputation for being cool. LOL

Actually there is so much satisfaction in just spreading the word about something good. Really! We have also made some great friends along the way.

What do the Divas get out of it?

A little promotion. A little exposure. A lot of love from our staff and our readers. This wouldn't work at all if our readers didn't care. But you do - you really do!!!

So we give them a feature for a month. Then they become a permanent member of our Crafty Diva Hall of Fame. In December we run a shopping feature so our readers can find cool, unique gifts. (Aren't you tired of seeing the same stuff at every store you walk in to?? We were!!)

What does it take to be a Diva?

Ahhh - the big question. We can't even explain it. Our Divas are so varied in what they do and how they do it. Some work out of their homes. Others have grown into their own small enterprises. #1: It takes talent. #2: We have to like what we see. #3: We have to believe that our readers will like it, too. #4: We have to have bought something from the Diva - or have been in contact with someone that has. Talent is great - but customer service is key! #5: Personality. We like to work with fun people. It makes our job nicer. A lot nicer.

The rest we leave to the Magic 8 ball sitting in the office - LOL.

How do you become featured as a Crafty Diva?

There are a couple of ways.

Sometimes a customer or fan may send us an e-mail about a site. In those cases - if we like what we see - we may extend an invitation. I know, I know - it is hard to believe - but some of our Divas didn't even know about this feature until we contacted them! We're going to blame it on the long hours they work that takes them away from browsing the net. :)

The best way is to fill out our Crafty Diva Application Form and let us know you want to send us your product to review. :) We love checking out new goodies in person!! What better way to prove you've got the goods? LOL Seriously. We love getting stuff. We don't consider it a bribe. Nooooooooooooooooooo. But....... we do take pride in recommending the BEST products to our readers, and the only true way we know we are doing that is by seeing and using the products we recommend!

The Bottom Line...

We don't charge anyone for being a Diva. We don't ask for a percentage of sales. We don't even require you to send us loads of free stuff for our own personal use. Just one item that we can review in person, and one to give away to our readers. (But a variety of items may help - see above. Haha) We just ask that you let us interview you, send us some pics of your products, participate in a giveaway for our readers (because we know that you guys like free stuff, too!), and keep us updated on any changes or promotions that our readers would like to know about.

We get many, many e-mails about being a Crafty Diva. It is great! This year, and in 2005, we will be featuring more than one per month like we did in 2003. And its getting hard to choose. We have toyed with the idea of putting future Divas to a vote by our readers - to see who they really want to read about and see featured - but we don't think it has come to that. Not yet. For now we will simply feature the best that we have found.
