The Interview
"I want to taste it so bad!"
That was the general consensus I got when speaking to Cassie. Despite the reasons for her elimination, or the impression viewers had of her watching the show, Cassie wants people that she wants to be a model. She really, really does.
Right now, Cassie doesn't feel the fame. "I feel very normal. I'm still a little girl from Oklahoma." Although she had dreamed of being a celebrity all of her life, and has been watched by millions each week on America's Next Top Model, Cassie claims "I don't consider myself famous."
Cassie had never modeled before. Like many, she grew up in a small town with little opportunity. "That's the beauty of the show, they take a person from a small town and give them a chance." She enjoyed the chance she was given, and "got to be exposed to some amazing people."
So why did she seem so unhappy?
"My fault. There were problems with my family... I was very homesick. But modeling is a dream. I'd give up anything."
Even her boyfriend?
"If we had to be separated to further my career," she began to explain, she would. "He would never want me to stay."
And Cassie definitely wants to continue to pursue modeling. "I'm not going to let it ruin my dream. I'm going to try. I've been back to New York..."
During the episodes, Cassie was also portrayed as the "girl with an eating disorder." Did she think that was fair?
"No - very much so. They dramatized the situation... I blame myself completely." She had told the other girls that she had thrown up 3-4 times in the past. "It never should have been an issue." But as much as she explained away the "Eating disorder" image, I couldn't help but think about what we had all seen in the episodes. Especially her phone call to her boyfriend explaining that they wanted her to go for counseling. When he asked "What for?" she replied "You know." Answering his question of "How'd they find out?" with "I had to tell them" tells me that maybe there is more of a problem than she was letting on in our interview. If Cassie wanted to spin the situation, I'm sure she had her reasons.
Cassie seemed very animated when discussing her 2 favorite photo shoots. The Lee Jeans shoot and the double composite were "a lot of fun! I loved the chance to work!" The glimpse into the modeling world she was given has just made her want it more. "If I have to leave school and go to LA or New York, I will!"
For now she is rooting for all of the girls to win. As she says, the winner "could be anybody." Only a few eliminations before hers surprised her. "Ann made it to the final two a couple of times. I thought maybe she would go. But Kelle and Jennipher left."
Only Cassie knows whether she was unhappy while on the show. And only she knows whether she really wants the modeling life. As much as she tried convincing us that she is happy and does want this, I am left with the feeling that maybe one day she will convince herself. As for her future, we'll have to see.
Cassie's Beauty Tip:
"On the show - I didn't know about bronzer. You can use it on your cheeks, as eye shadow. In the winter it gives you color. It makes you feel better. MAC has a good one!"
