Brooke, a student from Corpus Christi, Texas, became the seventh girl eliminated from the sixth cycle of UPN's hit series AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, reducing the pool from 7 girls to 6.
After arriving at the Strausberg Advertising Agency, each girl completed an interview process for a potential commercial opportunity. All of the girls became insulted by the callous and offensive feedback they received about their looks and portfolios, only to find that their interviewer was actually an actress and her cruel comments were intended to help them deal with difficult criticism they would face within the modeling industry.
The girls then met with Jay Manuel for a photo shoot for Pantene Pro-V hair products, where each showed off their lovely locks dressed as life-sized dolls. Brooke, who was transformed into a glamorous doll, had difficulty with her movement and expressions causing her poses to appear awkward. "I need you to work on being comfortable in your skin," Jay said to Brooke after her shoot.
The next day, the girls got the opportunity to meet with renowned super model Janice Dickinson and Eva Pigford, winner of AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL: Cycle 3. Eva provided tips about survival within the competition, while Janice discussed how the girls should beware of the ugly and dark side of modeling.
Later, to further educate the girls about the challenges of the modeling industry, Tyra directed each in a simple photo shoot where they had to look amazing while crying. Brooke continued to have difficulty capturing the correct expression and Tyra became frustrated when her poses came across as too sexy and tense.
During the elimination ceremony, the judging panel reviewed the photographs from both of the week's shoots. While all of the judges felt that Brooke has all of the potential in the world, they agreed that it was failing to show through. "The judges look at you and every week you are the most beautiful girl to them, but we still haven't seen that in your pictures," Tyra said to Brooke before eliminating her from the competition.
The winner of UPN's AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL will have the opportunity to be managed by Ford Models. She will also receive a $100,000 contract with cosmetics giant CoverGirl. The winner will additionally appear in a fashion spread in Elle magazine.
The sixth installment of UPN's hit dramality series AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL follows 13 young women as they attempt to prove they have what it takes to make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of modeling. Banks, who created the show, also serves as executive producer along with Ken Mok ("Making the Band") and Anthony Dominici ("The Amazing Race").
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL airs Wednesdays, (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on UPN. For more information about AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, log on to www.upn.com.
The Interview
Brooke's life before America's Next Top Model was pretty normal as she attended college at Texas A&M. When the show held auditions in the area, her friends told her she should go. "I always watched the show." But watching the show and being on the show are two different things. "I didn't know what it would be like. It was a little harder [than she thought it would be]. It takes so much to be a good model."
Living in the house with 12 other girls was a pleasant surprise, however. "It was much better than what I was thinking. They are the greatest group of girls." Brooke is still in touch with the majority of her former housemates, "especially Leslie" with whom she became very good friends.
So what kept Brooke from becoming America's Next Top Model? According to the judges, one of her biggest drawbacks was looking too sexy. How do you deal with that? "I would listen to the judges, and I would try to play it down. I never understood why I looked sexy. I didn't try." Was she surprised by any of the comments by the judges when she watched it all unfold on television back home? "I'm surprised by what Nigel said. It's all good though" she chuckled over the phone.
Elimination day is always hard on the girls, but we were curious if any of the previous eliminations had surprised her. "Kari's because it was out there. Nobody saw that coming. And Mollie Sue's especially. She has such a huge personality!"
But like many girls that have come before her, Brooke learned a lot about herself while she was on the show. "I learned I need to be more confident. I always cared what everybody thought." So what would she like people to know about her now? "I'm normally not... I have more confidence than I did on the show. I'm not as weak or as fragile. And I love having fun!!!!"
We asked Brooke if she had any regrets. "Not handling myself as well as I could have. I needed to be more confident. Oh.. also getting in that fight. I feel so bad about that!" Despite those, Brooke says it was worth it, and would "definitely" do it all over again.
Now Brooke is finishing the last 3 semesters of school, then it is off to New York to persue her modeling career. We wish her the best of luck.. and appreciate the time she took to talk with us.
