Mollie Sue, a waitress from Tampa, Fla., became the fifth girl eliminated from the sixth cycle of UPN's hit series AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, reducing the pool from 9 girls to 8.
Tyra visited the girls and soon after appeared to faint, sending everyone into a panic. She quickly rose to show that she had faked the fall to demonstrate that to be a successful commercial model you must be convincing.
Later the girls went to the Groundlings Theatre where they met with acting coach Jeremy Rowley for a lesson in improvisation techniques. Although the improv exercises came easy to some of the girls, Mollie Sue appeared to have difficulty, prompting Rowley to ask her to provide more energy and effort.
The following day the girls put their learned skills to the test when they were challenged to perform improv sketches with Nick Cannon of MTV's "Wild'n Out." Mollie Sue once again struggled to bring her personality to the front of the competition. Furonda was crowned the winner of the challenge and landed a guest role on UPN's VERONICA MARS, along with the opportunity for her and Nnenna to record a public service announcement about HIV prevention in support of "KNOW HIV/AIDS," a joint venture between CBS Corporation and Viacom, in partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Jay Manuel then met the girls for their weekly challenge where each had to once again rely on improv techniques to complete a fresh and enthusiastic commercial shoot for CoverGirl's Clean Liquid Make-up. For the second day in a row, Mollie Sue had difficulty letting her personality shine. "You missed a line and there was nothing engaging about your delivery," Jay told Mollie Sue.
During the week's elimination ceremony, the judges viewed each girl's commercial to determine who would be eliminated. While Jade found herself in the bottom two for the first time, it was Mollie Sue who seemed to have the most difficulties throughout the week. "You are not here because you take bad pictures, but because of something we call lack of persona," Tyra told Mollie Sue before eliminating her from the competition.
The winner of UPN's AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL will have the opportunity to be managed by Ford Models. She also receives a $100,000 contract with cosmetics giant CoverGirl. Finally, the winner appears in a fashion spread in Elle magazine.
The sixth installment of UPN's hit dramality series AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL follows 13 young women as they attempt to prove they have what it takes to make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of modeling. Banks, who created the show, also serves as executive producer along with Ken Mok ("Making the Band") and Anthony Dominici ("The Amazing Race").
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL airs Wednesdays, (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on UPN. For more information about AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL, log on to www.upn.com.
The Interview
First I want everyone to know how FUN Mollie Sue is to talk to. Her personality simply bubbled over the phone line during our interview - and has been one of my favorites so far. Funny, since her personality (or lack there of) was one of the main reasons given for her being eliminated from America's Next Top Model.
Mollie Sue's modeling history is like many of the girls that have been selected for the dramality show: Always a dream, but limited experience. "Not enough to support a starving model lifestyle" was how she explained it. So Mollie Sue took matters into her own hands and decided to audition for Top Model. "I'm older. A lot older than the rest of the girls. I can't walk into an agency." Seeing this as her best shot to be seen, get known and break into the very tough world of modeling, Mollie Sue went for it. As a result, she learned a lot about modeling. "You think you know, but I learned so much. My runway wasn't the best going in, but I learned a lot to improve it. I learned that in pictures, awkward is sometimes right... feeling awkward is right. We learned speaking and... just so much!"
After being selected as one of the final girls, Mollie Sue's life became "hurry up and wait. You get up early, then you're waiting. We were never at the house. Always in a car or on set or... waiting." We then talked a bit about the differences between what she experienced, and what we saw - and what her personality is really like. IE: editing.
"I'm such a goof ball and can't stop talking. But in the semis I was so nervous. From that point on in panels I was so nervous. There was no way to cut off my nerves." And after the elimination we saw, Mollie did receive some support. "The girls called me afterwards. Nobody knew I was a boring person!" she laughed. Her friends back home were a little surprised, too. "My friends called me and nobody knew what the judges were talking about, because they know me, and my personality." But Mollie Sue knew her nerves were getting to her. "Tyra told me to show my personality. Nigel told me. I didn't know how to turn it around."
Mollie Sue's elimination shocked more than just me. I asked her what was going through her head when she learned that she was going home instead of Jade. "The whole.... even watching it back... I don't remember hearing Jade's name. I almost stepped up and grabbed the picture. There was no way they were sending me home instead of Jade. I was so shocked."
So what was it like for Mollie Sue to come home and not tell her friends and family about what had happened? "That was the worst. Seeing my mom last night. I should have told her before the show aired. I did feel like I was lying."
When asked if she would do it all over again, her reply was "I would, but.... I would." She described her experience as "an incredible journey" and found it hard to pinpoint a favorite part. "Everything we did. Whatever happened. Everything." But there are a few changes she would make. "I'd want to change my nerves but I'd still be just as nervous. Everything you want is right there in front of you."
Now this stunning, FUN gal is moving to New York City. And for those of you that have heard the rumors... yes, Mollie Sue is now a Mrs. "I got married on Monday". She described her new husband as "super supportive" throughout her time on the show.
To all of her fans, Mollie Sue offers enthusiastic and sincere thanks. "The e-mail thing.. the support.. has been insane!! Thank you so much."
We wish Mollie Sue the best in life, marriage and her career. And we truly appreciate taking the time to talk with us, and for making it such a blast!
