Crafty Divas and Entrepreneurial Empresses
June 2003's Diva
Anjali Pathak
of www.happyluckyme.com

I have been waiting for months to feature this girl!! She creatively combines some of my favorite things: yummy ethnic food and cool clothing. Her totes initially caught my eye - but her tees and camis are simply delicious!

The Interview
**********************************************************
The Basic Lowdown:
Girlposse.com: Who are you?
Anjali Pathak: I can name the basics. I'm a woman. I'm an artistan. I'm a lawyer. I'm a wife. I'm an animal lover.
Girlposse.com: Where are you located?
Anjali Pathak: Sunny Los Angeles, CA.
Girlposse.com: What is your creation / business?
Anjali Pathak: I create Asian fusion items that are meant to stimulate thought and whimsy (not in any particular order). This includes my flagship line, Asian foods and my new Summer items- Asian neighborhoods and Asian flowers.
Girlposse.com: Where can people buy your stuff?
Anjali Pathak: Interested customers can buy Happy Lucky Me goods directly from the company website: http://www.happyluckyme.com.
Girlposse.com: How long have you been doing this?
Anjali Pathak: I began Happy Lucky Me in October 2002, but I've been artistic all my life. As a child, I posed stuffed animals for portrait sessions. I also got really good at drawing teeny weeny comic book characters onto full-size sheets of paper. This made me popular with the boys because I could draw their favorite robots and transformers big enough to stick on their bedroom walls.
Girlposse.com: Tell us something about yourself - your personality:
Anjali Pathak: I love to laugh. I go into situations expecting to succeed. I trust too easily. I'm extremely anal retentive when it comes to my work.

Girlposse.com: Your totes blend two of my favorite things: food (especially samosas!) and cool bags. What first gave you the idea to combine the two?
Anjali Pathak: I was committed to doing some sort of fusion work. Food was an easy first choice because I, like you, have a passion for both fashion and Asian food.
Girlposse.com: What was (is) your biggest obstacle in selling what you create?
Anjali Pathak: The biggest obsticle was (is) getting the word out on a limited budget. You've got to be extremely creative when it comes to marketing.
Girlposse.com: Do you find it difficult in coming up with original ideas?
Anjali Pathak: No- not really. However, I do sometimes think to myself "Anjali, just because you like it doesn't mean other people will." At those times, my Dad is an unknowing support to me. He has been a businessman for many years and I grew up hearing him say, "If you can sell one, you can sell a million." So...I hold my breath until the first item is sold and then I relax.
Girlposse.com: What keeps you going on a bad day?
Anjali Pathak: I think about all the people that have made it in this world. Designers. Moviestars. Comedians. Whoever. They all say they had times when they felt like quitting but didn't. I remind myself that it's natural to feel frustrated at times and that is just part of the journey. I'm not quitting and each time i get over a hump, it just makes me more confident. It keeps me going. The bad times make the good times even sweeter. And when the good time finally does arrive for me- it's going to be awfully sweet!
Girlposse.com: Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
Anjali Pathak: I don't have any particular favorite places to shop. I know what I like and it doesn't really matter where it comes from. However, since I started my own business, I prefer to shop online to support other women-run fashion businesses. I rather my money go to a single woman making her dreams come true than to a big business who pays its workers only a tiny fraction of the actual price of each item.
Girlposse.com: What was the best piece of advice you've been given?
Anjali Pathak: Screw what others have to say and stick with it. Most people are just afraid of people who are actually searching for happiness- it just reminds them that they probably should be doing that too.
Girlposse.com: What advice would you give to a future Crafty Diva?
Anjali Pathak: Quality First. There is no marketing in the world more effective than a happy customer.
Girlposse.com: Any additional thoughts or comments you'd like to share with the world?
Anjali Pathak: Thank you for taking the time to hear me out. I really appreciate it. I wish you and Girl Posse the best of luck.
Girlposse.com: Are they any other Crafty Divas or Entrepreneurial Empresses we should know
about?
Anjali Pathak:
Gerbera Designs
Madgeworld
Suzanna Anna
Taynk
Yumiyah....
and pretty much all the fine ladies on my linx page. I adore them all for their supprt and inspiration.
