The Singing Detective

Directed by Keith Gordon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Robin Wright Penn,Jeremy Northam, Katie Holmes, Carla Cugino and Mel Gibson.

Based on Dennis Potter's 1986 TV mini series of the same name, this movie is really trippy. This is a psychological musical drama of sorts. I've always liked musicals, so it had me entertained on that level.

Downey was fabulous as the tortured soul who tries to come to grips with his past as he faces debilitating psoriasis which leads him to paranoid hallucinations. Gibson plays a role unlike any you have seen him play before; the eccentric doctor who is given the task of taking care of this wacky patient.

The viewer is transported into another world which is zany and somewhat entertaining on a bizarre level.
