About HyJinX:
HyJinX began in March of 2001 as a ska project between friends to bring variety to a high school battle of the bands. Original members Bryce, Dave, Matt, and Brian, along with others involved in the project, enjoyed it so much that they decided to continue. The original bassist of the group soon became torn between two bands and eventually chose to leave HyJinX. On the evening of his departure, in the early summer of 2001, Sierra joined the band. Pasquale joined the band for the first time around the same time as Sierra, but ten months later left due to personal differences. Beforehand, Sierra had been a guest in some songs on violin, but had never before touched a bass. Sierra worked very hard and soon was tearing through all the old bass lines and writing her own as well.
The band continued to play shows with bands of all styles, and also began to play bars and events as a source of income. During this time the horn section The following summer was filled with music, laughter and comradery as the band formed strong bonds of friendship. At the end of the summer of 2003, Pasquale returned for a special show and in the whirlwind
of nostalgic feelings, joined back up. It soon became apparent that Sierra could not continue with the band once she went to college. The long and taxing search for a new bassist finally ended with George McRedmond. George is a veteran bassist of numerous bands, most notably Long Island's Sprout, with a long history of many different genres of music and many different venues of performance.
HyJinX has made it common to allow musicians in the audience to sit in with the band from time to time. They have had the opportunity to work with some great musicians who happened to be attending shows. One of which named Brian Cano, is a fantastic conga player and a great drummer. Brian began to attend so many shows, and sit in so often, that the band felt more together and had better shows whenever he was around. It became obvious that he should join the band, and now the sound is truly complete and the group feels very secure and together in their goals and music.
HyJinX recently recorded their demo and full length album due out in June 2004 at Cove City Sound Studios, and is currently well booked into the spring of 2004, and is preparing to on tour with the release of their debut album. HyJinX is always actively writing and rehearsing new material while handing out thousands of free CD sampler packs all over the island, which include a CD with a full length version of 'Flickering Candle', and clips of 'Blind Path' and 'Faded', a list of show dates, stickers and flyers for specific shows.
In most recent news, HyJinX was awarded grand prize in the 2004 Goodtimes Magazine Long Island Battle of the Bands on Dec 4th, 2004 at Mulcahys in Wantagh. After two gruelling rounds of preliminary elimination the festival came down from 150 bands to 10, and HyJinX came out on top. As the grand prize winners they will be receiving a cash prize, recording time, and lots of publicity from Goodtimes and other publications and media.
