ABOUT MARINA
Russian-born and Los
Angeles-based Marina V is an intriguing Adult Alternative
singer/pianist/songwriter with an incredible life story. Marina's music is a magical blend
of her angelic voice, hooky melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and fresh chord progressions,
which make this new artist truly special.
Influenced by the Beatles and Tchaikovsky, Marina's
music style has been described as an unusual mix of Tori Amos, Jewel & Paul McCartney,
but "with her unique phrasing, breathless, smoky-sweet and compelling vocals, she's
got a sound all her own" (Artists Studio Magazine).
Having relentlessly performed across the USA, the green-eyed songstress has created quite
a buzz, effortlessly connecting to her fans through her unique but accessible music and
through her eccentric but very charming personality.
Marina has also gained serious attention from the music media, having been featured in
numerous print and online publications. She was recently featured in the Keyboard
Magazine, which called her "one of the most promising singer/songwriters of
the year". She has also been named as one of the HOT 100 UNSIGNED Artists
by Music Connection Magazine and is a proud recipient of the ASCAP
popular award for 2003-2004.
Marina's songs can be heard on MTV (the Real World), films and radio
stations such as XM Satellite Radio. The twenty-four year-old chanteuse
is officially endorsed by AUDIX microphones, PEAVEY
products and YAMAHA digital pianos.
Marina has just released her new album,
"Something of My Own". Recorded together with her long-time co-writer, Nick
Baker, the album starts off with the title track, a driving song with a great piano
groove. "Life is simple until I use my brain" is the first line of the
song about discovering yourself amid the rules of society and organized religion. "Sometimes
it feels like it's easier to coast through life and follow everyone else's footsteps",
Marina comments. "But it is so much more exciting to make your own choices and be
yourself."
From the beautiful "Killing My Dream" &
enchanting "On This Christmas Night", to the silly & slightly sarcastic
"That's The Way It Goes," this album deals with life's truths while conveying
stories of love & betrayal, lost relationships and dreams with a new and unique twist.
The album is available at www.MarinaV.com and at Marina's concerts.
THE REVIEW
Every once in a while a new "sound" slowly begins to emerge from the trenches. Amongst all of the manufactured pop, rap, hip hop and bland rock invading the radio waves, there are a few gems that need unearthed. In the past year we have been sent many CDs that share some qualities: The voices are haunting, the lyrics timeless, the songwriting superb, the artist largely unknown.
Marina V's "Something Of My Own" falls squarely in the middle of that pack. The production is delightfully understated, allowing her talents as a musician to shine through. I'm a huge fan of classical piano, so I really wanted to like this CD just reading her bio. I wasn't disappointed. But I was surprised by how moving the songs were. This isn't your average CD. It is sophisticated while speaking to you with lyrical pictures.
One teeny tiny complaint: How the heck am I supposed to sing along with this?? The range and phrasing are way beyond my shower-singing capabilities!! LOL
Marina V should have an amazing career in front of her. I could easily see her scoring films in addition to releasing albums. Why isn't she signed yet? I have no idea. Not a clue. Visit her site, http://www.marinav.com/, and listen for yourself. She is amazing.
