Painting Halos
Sifted

Date: February 2003

Bio:
Sifted began to form in the parallel universe of Boston, Massachusetts in the depth of winter, 2000/01. Josh and Stacy Phillips and Taylor Hanson gravitated to one another and burst forth in musical light. Fashioning songs written by Stacy and Taylor into melodic auroras, the trio tilted toward darkly sunny alt.rolk, or alternative folk/rock, featuring Stacy on acoustic guitar and explosive vocals, Taylor assaulting keys and vocalizing, and Josh beating all things percussive. The trio aimed to bottle liquid truth in their tunes.

With the blossom of spring came a comet of musical energy: Justin Glasco, bassist and drummer extraordinaire. Justin soon attracted his friend and bass wizard, Tim Denbo, to the band's sphere and focused his powers solely on drums. With all the correct stars aligned, conditions were optimum, and the Sifted experience rose in the East.

Sifted debuted in Fall 2001 with performances at coffee houses in Harvard Square and have continued to play in clubs throughout Boston. They are currently supporting their debut album "Painting Halos," produced with the feather touch of rock-star-turned-amazing-producer Michael Sweet of Stryper fame.

Stacy Phillips, a graduate of Berklee College of Music, has studied voice, songwriting, and music theater, adding flair to Sifted's style of alt.rolk. She has been recognized in a number of national contests for her songwriting talents.

Taylor Hanson is completing a degree from Berklee focused on songwriting and piano performance. Hailing from Seattle, Taylor's vision keeps the band echoing with freshness.

Justin Glasco is also completing a degree from Berklee centered on drum set performance. Justin's Dad is an acapella gospel singer and inspired Justin to pursue music. Justin plans to cut out a place in the recording industry in the coming years.

Tim Denbo is finishing his degree from Berklee concentrated on bass performance. Tim also aspires to working his way up in the recording industry and keeps himself busy playing with a variety of local acts.

Josh Phillips has a career teaching high school history but loves every minute of his involvement with Sifted playing percussion. Don't get him started about Star Wars. . .

The Review

Sifted is a band of talented musicians with strong songwriting abilities. Stacy Phillips's voice may linger in your ear long after the CD has ended, but it is the songs themselves that massage your memory. "Disenchanted" and "Where Are You Now" are radio-friendly tunes. "Bleed" and "Deep Down" are examples of what radio should strive to be.

If you're looking for another addition to your CD collection, "Painting Halos" should be high on your list.
