Fleetwood Mac: Say You Will

Label: Warner Brothers
Release Date: 04/15/2003

"Fleetwood Mac fans are being rewarded for their patience with a brilliant new CD."

The Review

The sounds eminating from my speakers as I write this throw me back to the days of Tusk, with a bit of Tango in the Night thrown in. It was such a relief to find that these 18 songs are quint essential Mac. Although Christine McVie is no longer with the band, the remaining four members, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood have produced that "sound" that made them one of the best selling, and most loved bands in the 70's and 80's. Lindsey's influence is definitely felt on this disc. From his fluid playing to his nearly mystical arranging. This just feels like a Fleetwood Mac album.

Not that Say You Will is all a throwback to the good ol' days. Surprisingly there are some songs that depart from the classic Mac formula, and succeed. "Come" is a melodic song that hits you with a punch and kick out of almost nowhere. "Murrow Turning Over in His Grave" is very Lindsey - both in the vocals and the mood. But there are songs that are very comfortable and almost familiar upon first listen. "Smile At You" is finally here! Having had a very bad recording of this track for years, it sounds even better than I imagined it could. "Bleed to Love Her" was one of my favorites from The Dance, and it appears here as a superb studio version. The title track is a catchy tune that just sticks in your head. All in all, these 18 songs are the reward for being a Fleetwood Mac fan, or the reason for becoming a new fan.

The tour kicks off May 7 in Columbus, Ohio. Trixie will be there herself reviewing the show amongst a lot of singing and dancing.......
