Blow
Starring: Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Jordi Molla, Ray
Liotta, Rachel Griffiths, Paul Reubens. Directed by Ted Demme. Distributor: New Line Cinema
Johhny Depp plays George Jung, a real life drug smuggler and dealer in the late 70’s / 80’s. Growing up vowing to never be poor and live life as his father had,
George finds that all the money and power that drugs brought him, ended him exactly like his father - if not worse.
The film told the story well, and the acting was great.
Johnny Depp’s performance was one of his finest. Where I found Traffic to be
redundant and mostly out of it’s time, Blow delivered a realistic and entertaining look into the life of the man behind it all. Realistic enough for me to become so
frustrated with George and the decisions he made. I wanted to scream at the screen: “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!?!?” so many times.
The soundtrack was an awesome bonus. Whoever picked the music should get an entire package of cookies. :)
