Bridget Jones’s Diary
Starring: Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Jim
Broadbent, James Callis. Directed by Sharon Maguire. Distributor: Miramax Films
Grab all of your girlfriends together on a Saturday afternoon and head out to see this movie. I am a big fan of this book, and really doubted whether Renee Zellweger could pull off the role of
Bridget. After seeing the film, my apologies to Ms. Zellweger. She was perfect for the role. Charming and so very real.
Bridget is 32, single, slightly neurotic and starting off a new year with a diary and the goal of staying a “singleton” no longer. She’s not the best public
speaker, has the habit of embarrassing herself widely in public, and is one of the most “real” characters I have seen in film in a long time. If you are female
and can’t relate to her on some level - you haven’t been living, or you’ve been married since your sophomore year in high school.
The music is great. The cast delightful. The story witty and touching. I can’t wait until they make the sequel. :)
