September Movie Reviews
From the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival
Lockdown
Excellent performances by an extremely talented cast who bring the screen to life. Lockdown will have a short run at the mainstream box offices, moving some people and
possibly aggravating others.
My mother always told me that people judge you by the company you keep. This movie brings those words to life.
Hopefully misguided youths will see that you should be careful of who you ‘hang’ with and suffer the consequences if you are with the wrong the crowd – not always fair,
but just life. We also see that jail is no place to be and it is called prison for a reason.
Not necessarily a new story line, but one told well and with passion.
~Sheila, September 2000
Lockdown was most impressive by the performance of the actors. Richard T. Jones (who was even more beautiful in person than on screen - yum!), and Gabriel
Casseus (who stunned me with his portrayal of a hard core gang member - a complete reversal from his role in Harlem Aria) are two friends that are sentenced to
prison because of bad luck, ill-timing and circumstance. The experience will test their inner strengths and beliefs in a struggle to survive.
This is one of those films that was great to see, though difficult to watch.
