Notting Hill
A story about a world famous actress who falls in love with the average
Joe type of bookstore owner. (I know, I know...it's hard to imagine they could actually make a feature length motion picture out of that, but they do.) This is a love story, of course, but with a little comedic twist...very funny. I actually laughed out loud. And sort of touching too. Julia Roberts was absolutely beautiful, more stunning than I have ever seen her. Hugh Grant was cute in a skinny, no ass sort of way. Both were very good for the parts. But the guy who stole the show was Hugh's flatmate, Spike. He was beyond repulsive, but it wouldn't have been the same without him.
I suggest that if you like love stories, but are tired of your average, run-of-the-mill love story, go see this one. You are bound to get a laugh. (Oh, and maybe a little tear.)
(Bettie, June 1999)
