O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Starring: George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson, Holly Hunter, John Goodman.

Directed by Joel Coen.
Written by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The Coen brothers have done it again. They’ve created a film that is delightful to watch while taking you on a journey that you didn’t quite expect.

The story, based on Homer’s Odyssey, is about 3 men that escape from prison in the 30’s, and are set on a journey of many surprises. Their tale is foretold in the beginning by a blind “prophet” who forewarns of what is to come. What they think is simply a trail to riches turns into much more. The characters and situations they meet along are an interesting tale.

Although there were some parts of the movie that didn’t seem to make sense at the time, it explained itself well by the end. The acting was very well done by everyone involved. Surprisingly, the music was a big hit. Which was good, since it was almost like a character itself throughout the movie.

This film isn’t typical of what I’ve been seeing in the theaters lately. It’s hard to describe other than to say it was a delightful time spent in the theater simply being entertained.

This is a film that can be enjoyed by all, young and old. Although the young may not appreciate some of the humor and much of the message of the journey.
