The Patriot

Wow! Great movie starring the one and only, Mel Gibson, showing that he’s till got ‘it’.  You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, hopefully you’ll be puzzled by the stupidity of war and the tactics which reminded me of playing British bulldogs in school.

I think I now understand where the ‘game’ if you can call it that came from. We had two teams. Each would stand at either side of the football field. On the command of ‘charge’, each team would charge towards the other, with the idea being to knock down your opponents and make it to the other side. The first team to have all their players reach the opposite side of the field won.

I digressed. The revolutionary war with the fields of battle, was insanity. Just like our school field games. Stupidity with a capitol S. Young and old men basically standing in front of firing squads, bound to get hit at one time or another.

The Patriot is nearly three hours long, but that is barely noticed until about 2 ½ hours through the movie. There is an interesting mix between humor and savagery. One minute you are grimacing from the blood and violence, the next you are laughing at a joke or entertaining scene. Gibson plays a hero and a family man. Drawn into the war to avenge the death of his son, he takes on the whole British army with his scruffy looking bandits.

A must see movie of the year.
