September Movie Reviews From the 2000 Toronto International Film Festival
Wild Zero
A fantastic zombie movie to make you squirm and laugh. If you like Japanese 'scare' flicks, you'll love this comedy of horrors.
The music from Guitar Wolf blasted from the screen
and the man himself was great in his role, supposedly playing his real self.
The good guys fight the zombies, the geek, wanna-be-cool guy, gets the girl/guy, Guitar Wolf saves the world.
See it if you can and you'll be entertained for sure.

Who would have thought that a Japanese (subtitled) rock and roll film about flesh eating zombies from outer space would be so enjoyable. For me, it was a great way to end the festival. Wild
Zero, starring Guitar Wolf, was a madcap adventure of loud guitars, blood and comedy. It was so cheesy it was great. Guitar Wolf reminded me of a Japanese Ramones. I'm just going to have to
purchase the soundtrack.
You must understand that Midnight Madness films aren't your ordinary, average films, and neither are
the audiences. They tend to be a bit more vocal. A little crazier. Weird even. By the laughter and commentary throughout the film it seemed as if the crowd was having as much fun as I did. However, nobody was having more fun than the director, Tetsuro Takeuchi. While introducing the film he said we must all be crazy to be there to see this stupid film of his. He thought people in Canada were smarter than tht. :) Afterwards he thanked us for staying for the entire film, and entertained the crowd thoroughly with his descriptions, tales of shooting and the explanation that the highest expense for the film was the beer. When asked if there was going to be a sequel he explained that he had provided his own funding and had to get back to work to make more money (Takeuchi is a music video producer). This comment was met by a fan jumping on stage and handing over a cash donation. Did I mention that the Midnight Madness crowds are a bit supportive?
I can see Wild Zero becoming a cult favorite throughout the world.
