You’ve Got Mail
I would consider this an appropriate date flick I suppose. If you want to bore your date to death. The story is so predictable yet unconvincing at the same time. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are
again paired as two cute people who are destined to be together despite mitigating circumstances. In this case, however, circumstances should have won out.
Joe (Tom Hanks) is a business rival of
Kathleen's (Meg Ryan). Although they don't like each other, they unknowingly begin an annonymous, friendly e-mail correspondance. Joe discovers Kathleen is his "pen pal", he falls for her, and
goes about "running into" her at various locations to push her towards her "secret" pen pal. The whole thing just seemed sleazy and deceiptful - and at the end when she finds out it's
Joe, instead of crying "I was hoping it would be you," - I would have smacked him. (Trixie, March 2000)
