Lake Tahoe

Suggestions for Lake Tahoe
If in Lake Tahoe and you need to rent some gear, head to Discount Ski & Snowboards, 4077 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA. PH: (530) 541-7178.The prices are reasonable and the staff are very helpful and will get you fitted out with the most suitable equipment for your needs. It doesn't hurt either that you can head to Bandanas which is across the street for a bite to eat.

Skiing in Lake Tahoe is no where near as good as the slopes in Colorado, but if you live near there, then it may be the most convenient place to go.Weekends are incredibly crowded, and it would be much better to go on a weekday if you are able. Heavenly offers a wide variety of slopes for everyone and several lifts to take you all over the mountain. Sierra doesn't have as many slopes, but it has a party atmosphere on weekends if you like that sort of thing. The bar is hopping at the end of the day with everyone winding down after their day on the slopes.

Snowboarders versus Skiers
I may sound like an old lady here, but as a generalization, I am not fond of sharing a mountain with a boarder. Snowboarders who once started out as skiers or who are at least into their twenties are okay. It is the young punk kids on their boards who show no consideration for those around them that make me angry. In general, skiers will stop and ask you if you are okay if you are not on your feet, or will maneuver around you and be patient if you aren't quite up to their level of skiing expertise. Boarders don't seem to give a dam and have an attitude possibly formed in the depths of hell. They don't slow down when they are supposed too and are likely to take you out without so much as a "sorry." The older snowboarders from a different generation are much better. The young punk kids need to be given a slope of their own. There was one exception. I had fallen down, (much less this time than on my previous lesson), and a young boarder did ask if I was okay. Thank-you whoever you are and I wish your fellow snowboarders were as respectful to those who share the slopes and were there first. The skiers. This gal is sticking to skiing for the time being and getting better at it if I can say so myself. Practice, practice, practice until your muscles ache.
