New Orleans
05/04/99 12:16am It's true - the girls are headed to New Orleans. Actually - only Sheila and myself will be experiencing the adventure. And since
neither of us have actually been to NO before, we thought we'd share our trip-planning with all of you. So if you're planning a trip yourself - or feel inspired by reading about our adventures - we'll
let you know where we went for info: books, web sites, etc. We'll also have tips on where to go, eat, stay, drink and be merry after we return from our vacation - so stay tuned for more.
If you've
had the pleasure of having visited this great city - or even better - live there - and have tips you'd like to share, by all means...e-mail us! -Trixie
05/14/99 7:10pm Well - being the typical procrastinating Aquarius that I am - I'm now runnin' around like mad trying to get packed for "the
trip". I guess I'm not a very good "girl" (IE poor shoe selection) so I had to head to the mall today. Ugh. But all went well. Instead of buying shoes, I just bought new outfits to go with
the shoes I already own. Worked for me anyway. But enough about that. A couple of tips I've heard about packing for New Orleans (I'll let you know how helpful they were when we return)...
- It's hot and very humid - pack only light clothing. You can always layer things for the cooler nights.
- Only pack half your suitcase. You're gonna shop no matter how much you protest the accusation.
- COMFORTABLE SHOES ARE A MUST!!! (Thank goodness for Simpson's shoes. They're actually made for wear at the racetrack -but got got me through miles upon miles in Europe.)
- If you can - get a pocket guide of New Orleans with maps before you arrive. That way you can orient yourself a bit while planning what you want to see and do.
Now for what we plan to see and do. This is tough because there's so much to do. Basically the main things I have planned are eating (although I know finding vegetarian food in the south is
like trying to find an honest statement in a Clinton speech); walking (I hear they are some really good walking tours. I'm plannin' on the haunted and cemetery tours.); and livin' well (insert drinking,
smoking and dancing here). The swamp tours sound interesting and I gotta visit the Mardi Gras museum. There are also a couple clubs and bars I've been told to go to - we'll have our reviews when we get
back. Since our hotel is right across from the French Quarter (which all of them claim...we'll see) I'm sure we can find plenty of entertainment. Unfortunately we will also be working for a couple of
days while we're there...but the laptop's packed and ready to go so hopefully we'll have some pretty regular updates for ya. Now I'm off to make sure the essentials are packed (aspirin and cigarettes).
Until next time.... -Trix
5/21/99 11:08 am Well, we've been experiencing technical difficulties trying to update the page since arriving in New Orleans. And although this
isn't updated - we have been keeping a daily journal to post upon our return. So far we're really not impressed by New Orleans (especially the French Quarter). Initially I'd have to say it's
dirty and smelly and the people are very rude. We thought maybe it had to do with actually having to work the first 4 days we were here and that we'd have fun and enjoy the city after that. No...we're
definitely having fun - but I'm not sure if that really has anything to do with the city itself. ; But we did find EXCELLENT vegetarian food, a few nice people and haven't stopped laughing about our
misadventures. So stay tuned and we should have it all here for you Monday. Read about out being kidnapped by a stoned cabbie, our reviews of the strip clubs and video porn on Bourbon strip, details from
our swamp tour, a copy of our palm readings by Princess Shauna, the tales of "Spanky" and "Kiwi" (who kept us almost in tears laughing so hard) and more. So until our return (a lucid
state of mind and a computer that's not a laptop that I can actually type on)...here's Trixie signing off as we head into the Garden District for our Ghost and cemetery tour.....
