South by Southwest 2000

Saturday March 11, 2000

I've heard it time and time again - the web is a male dominated society. But I didn't really believe it. After all - we're a "girl site" - most of you are women. Most of the sites I go to are female driven. So what an eye opener it was to arrive at the Interactive Web Awards and be greeted by a sea of testosterone. Not only was the entire audience only about 10% female - only 3 of the 24 awards were accepted by a woman. And 1 of those was just representing a big firm run by a man, another I'm afraid I don't know much about, and the 3rd was the epitome of "dumb blonde". We've come a long way, baby.....not.
