(Brat) Read her updates. 2002 Winter Olympics Sheila did it again. Went to the Olympics. (double brat!) But she brought us back some fabulous pics. Amsterdam On this particular trip Sheila almost made it to Amsterdam. What was more enticing than this city? Find out.... Athens "A journey into history can be taken in Athens where the mighty Acropolis stands high upon the hill, visible from most parts of the city......" Australia "Sheila has been exploring the land of Australia for a couple weeks now. She's been in the wild a lot - and isn't always near internet access. But she has been sending us updates when she can, and will continue to do so until she returns sometime in January....." Booneville, Arkansas "I spent a year in Booneville last week..." OK - that was to be the opening for my article (thanks to Nancy for the inspiration). Turns out the Road to Arkansas wasn't as bad as it sounds. In fact - my trip to Booneville, Arkansas via St. Louis was surprisingly fun..... Cairo "Getting to Cairo can be an interesting experience in itself. Flights only seem to come and go from there during the early hours of the morning...." Colorado Spend 3 days in the snow with Sheila. (Be warned - Sheila HATES to be cold...) Cook Islands "The Cook Islands operate on what the locals call Raro time. It is very laid back. Sometimes too laid back for those of us use to the US city living way of life. Once we got into the atmosphere and the casualness of the island, we laid back and enjoyed as time went by with or without us." Grand Geneva "Sometimes you just need to be pampered and taken care of. Very few do it better than the Grand Geneva." Jackson, Michigan Trixie's best kept secret - until she told the world. :) Find out why she makes the 8 hour round-trip drive to this town on a regular basis. Japan "Sheila just returned from Japan and has lots of tips and stories. If you’re planning a trip there soon - or would like to know more about the country, read on...." Lantau Island, Hong Kong "Lantau Island actually means 'broken head' in Cantonese. It is nearly twice the size as Hong Kong Island, yet has no where near the same population. Most of the island is mountainous and not habitable. It is a great place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong Island. There are some interesting villages, mountain hikes and Buddhist monasteries." Las Vegas Been there, done that. Must see shows! Lake Tahoe "Skiing in Lake Tahoe is no where near as good as the slopes in Colorado, but if you live near there, then it may be the most convenient place to go...." London "Ahhhhh, London, the place to get a nice cup of tea or a nice cuppa depending on the region you are in. The true English never can have just a cup of tea. They always seem to use the word nice in front of the word tea. I doubt that anyone would want to drink a bad cup of tea." Massachusetts "Well, I’m probably going to get in a bit of trouble for the following review. But what the hell, what else is new. I suppose I was supposed to have thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Massachusetts so much that I’d be planning my return visit before leaving. I did enjoy my visit. It just had nothing to do with Massachusetts. Maybe I even enjoyed myself despite being in Massachusetts." Memphis " I learnt very quickly not to trust the Hertz Neverlost System in the rental car. It was constantly assisting in getting me lost...." Such began Sheila's Memphis adventure. Mykonos "Mykonos is easily accessible from Athens or any of the other Greek Islands. Just take a short flight or hydrofoil or a longer ferry ride and you are there. Keep in mind it is also one of the most expensive islands to visit, so budget wisely. If you have the time, ferry from island to island to find your favorite one." New Orleans 05/04/99 12:16am "It's true - the girls are headed to New Orleans. Actually - only Sheila and myself will be experiencing the adventure. And since neither of us have actually been to NO before, we thought we'd share our trip-planning with all of you. So if you're planning a trip yourself - or feel inspired by reading about our adventures - we'll let you know where we went for info: books, web sites, etc. We'll also have tips on where to go, eat, stay, drink and be merry after we return from our vacation - so stay tuned for more." W Hotel on Lexington Ave, New York OK... after I stopped laughing I could see why Sheila was a bit perturbed...... New Zealand "New Zealand caters to many different travelers at various times of the year. Winter is great for skiing and snow boarding. The rest of the year the islands attracts adventurers geared to hike the around the living museum of the South Island with all its waterfalls, rainforests, magnificent beaches and amazing array of flora and fauna. The North Island is where Gnapp and I chose to experience the Kauri forests, Glow worm caves, mud pools, geysers and so much more." Oahu, Hawaii Oahu is not the largest of the Hawaiian Island, but it is my favorite. Here there is life. Hustle and bustle if you crave city life and also tranquil zones for peace are only a stones throw away from each other. The island is only 44 miles wide at it farthest points so you can easily take a day trip drive around the island and I highly recommend that you do just that. The island is very different from one side to the other and there is plenty to see. Ohio Sheila and Trixie list their top 10 reasons why you should go to Ohio, and why you should stay home. :) Rome "Be advised that many hotels do not have rooms with bathrooms. Check first if you don't want to share with the person down the hall...." Santorini - Greece "Santorini is easily accessible from Athens or any of the other Greek Islands. It is also one of the most beautiful so well worth a few days of exploration. If you have the time, ferry from island to island to find your favorite one." Shanghai "An interesting city in China to visit, but I personally wouldn't want to live there, yet I know several people who love the place, live there, are moving there or visit whenever they can." Toronto 1999 "Sheila and Trixie are making their second journey to Toronto, Canada for the Film Festival from September 10-14th. Here are some links, information, film reviews and more..." Toronto 2000 Sheila, Trixie and Bettie enjoyed a week in Toronto attending the Toronto International Film Festival. For those planning on attending the festival next year, or planning a visit to Toronto for any other reason, here are useful tips, reviews and links. We'll be sure to update you on anything new we discover in between screenings and feedings. :) SXSW 1999 / Austin Sheila has been making us all jealous for weeks as she planned her trip to Austin for the infamous SXSW. But she promised to keep us updated on all the going-ons....... SXSW 2000 / Austin "Girlposse.com was a finalist at South by Southwest for 'Best Girl Site'. Yippee! We lost, which sucked.. but we didn't let that stop us from having fun..." |
