Shanghai Pt. 1
An interesting city in China to visit, but I personally wouldn't want to live there, yet I know several people who love the place, live there, are moving there or visit whenever they can.
I constantly felt like I was dodging cars, bicycles
and mopeds as I attempted to cross the street. Worse was having to dodge flying phlegm as I walked down the side walk. Spitting is common practice in most parts of China. The air was
polluted, laundry hangs out to dry from every window, there is pushing and shoving nearly everywhere you go; excuse me is a word that does not seem to exist.
Being western and especially blonde in China opens you up for being stared at. I can understand the novelty when Chinese all have black hair and a
'different' looking person stands out in a crowd. Curiosity is everywhere. It is something that the tourists need to not get offended by.
On some good notes, there is plenty to see and do in this hustling, bustling city. Most cities I've visited have erotic/sex museums. In Shanghai they have
The Exhibition For Chinese Ancient Sex Culture. By positioning this place as a center for education, rather than anything too sexual, the Chinese find it
easier to live with. Artifacts date from 206B.C. to 220A.D. and are fascinating. There are items such as scrolls given to newly weds to show them
how to have sex, perfume bottles showing couples in various sexual positions and a staff who will grunt at you if you try to talk to them. A great place to visit for the displays, just not for the staff.
Located at 479 Nanjing Dong Road, 8th Floor, Shanghai. ph: 008621-63514381 This location may change as I have heard that the Exhibition is sometimes forced to relocate.
